Hey everyone, would love to get your thoughts on slashing. Do you think it’s good or bad? When would you want to see it get implemented? How would your envisioned system of slashing work?
Toly mentioned that slashing is “implemented but not automatic” – meaning to say that validators can always decide to manually slash a particular malicious actor.
My two cents: the real question, I think, is whether other “softer” slashing approaches like e.g force destaking, blocking future rewards, and so on, is enough to secure the network. Formally modeling this would probably rqeuire either simulation or game theoretic analysis. While slashing the principal would seriously mess up liquid staking protocols, that’s not in and of itself a good reason to avoid slashing.
